With two incredible coastlines, almost 20 volcanoes, lively colonial cities, richly abundant wildlife, immersive culture, and delicious food, it won't be hard to convince you that Nicaragua belongs at the top of your travel bucket list! Add to that the facts that Nicaragua is less crowded than other Latin countries and the people are friendly and you have a perfect getaway.

What does a 13-day volunteer trip to Nicaragua look like?
From the airport, head to a small fishing village on the Pacific coast and unpack in your beachfront home. This is where you will spend the next 10 days. Wake up to the sound of waves crashing on the beach and start your first day with an orientation about the community and learn about the projects that you'll get to be a part of before taking a boat ride through the mangrove forest. The next several days will be spent working on English education, conservation, and eco-friendly infrastructure projects between breakfast and lunch. After lunch, relax on the beach for a couple of hours before returning to the project site. In the late afternoon, spend time playing soccer with locals on the beach, learn how to surf, or maybe try out the diving.

On day 10, you'll climb to the top of Cerro Negro, the youngest and most active volcano in Central America before gliding on a sand-board down the black volcanic sand and then heading back for a community fiesta.

Days 11 and 12 are spent trekking to the summit of Telica Volcano where you will camp near the volcano's crater. You'll have dinner as you watch the sunset over the Pacific Ocean and hike up to see the glowing lava.
